Ruaridh Ross lives on a croft at the northern end of the Isle of Skye with his mum, dad and older sister Carey. He was diagnosed with Autism in 2004 - just before his 3rd birthday. |

Born on the 24th September 2001, Ruaridh was a normal developing little boy, until he reached the age of 18 months. It was at this time that he started to regress in his development. He lost his speech, didn't respond to his name and seemed totally unconnected with the world around him. |

| We approached the NHS for help but, after Autism was actually diagnosed, they offered us no help or hope for Ruaridh's condition. | ||||||||||||||
| Through a friend, Guy Matthews who works at Columba 1400 in Staffin, we heard that Dr David Cross, Head of Department of Psychology at the Texas Christian University, Fort Worth was over in Scotland. By a strange coincidence, a couple of days later, Dr Cross was on Skye for the day, visiting Columba 1400 and we were able to meet up with him. | ||||||||||||||
| Through the guidance of Dr David Cross and Dr Karyn Purvis, we are now following a biological intervention procedure, which has had some significant success with other children who have development problems. | ||||||||||||||
In January 2005 we were introduced to the Son-Rise Therapy programme. Also, through the Living Well Today Clinic, Virginia, we were introduced to Dr Michael Payne. The Start-Up programme for the Son-Rise Therapy meant we learnt about setting up a playroom and the need for volunteers who would be trained to work with Ruaridh. We now have local people who have come forward as volunteers to help him in his special playroom at home. |

Ruaridh had genetic testing which confirmed that he should not have had any childhood vaccinations due to his genetics and, because of this, he now has problems detoxing and with viruses in his body, such as measles. |

| Although we do receive a small amount of funding from organisations such as the Caudwell Charity, these treatments, therepaies, etc all costs money and, in order to raise the necessary finances to continue with the programmes, especially the bio-medical funding, we have been busy holding fundraising events on the island. | ||||||||||||||
The first event was on the 28th August 2005, when a group of very hardy local people took part in a sponsored walk across the Trotternish Ridge from the Old Man of Storr to the base of the Quiraing - in the worst weather you could ever have hoped for! Other events will be organised but they take time and we would just like to thank everyone who has shown us their kindness and generosity to date. If you would like to be kept in touch with Ruaridh's progress, have any questions you would like to ask us, or just want to drop us a line, click here or go to the Contacts Page of the website, where you can also make a donation or click on this link to buy cards designed by Ruaridh himself to help with his fundraising. |
